On 1st August 2025, a fire broke out in a single-story warehouse after an industrial forklift became involved in flames. Thanks to the rapid response of the building’s sprinkler system, four sprinkler heads activated immediately, controlling and extinguishing the blaze before it could spread.

The impact of the sprinkler system was significant:

  • The fire was contained to the immediate area of origin.
  • Heat and smoke production were dramatically reduced.
  • Staffordshire Fire & Rescue Service faced far less disruption to their operations, with reduced risk to their personnel.
  • Most importantly, the system prevented what could easily have escalated into a total building loss.

In this case, the combination of active fire protection (sprinklers) and passive fire protection (firewalls) proved to be an effective strategy, demonstrating how essential these measures are in safeguarding industrial facilities.

For comparison, in August 2021 a warehouse fire in Coventry - without a sprinkler system - required ten fire appliances and seventy firefighters to bring it under control. Despite these efforts, the blaze destroyed the Ram Enterprise building at Prologis Park, which had to be demolished just four days later (Business Sprinkler Alliance).

Why reporting sprinkler saves matters

This incident was logged on SprinklerSaves.co.uk, a platform dedicated to documenting cases where sprinklers have successfully controlled or extinguished fires. Reporting sprinkler activations is vital because it:

  • Provides real-world evidence of how effective sprinklers are.
  • Helps raise awareness among building owners, businesses, and policymakers.
  • Strengthens the case for the wider adoption of sprinklers across different sectors.

At A&F Sprinklers, we’re proud to see examples like this that underline the value of our industry. Sprinklers don’t just limit fire damage - they prevent disasters, save businesses, and protect the people inside.
