As part of our ongoing commitment to understanding and reducing our environmental impact, A&F Sprinklers has completed its Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Assessment for the 2023/24 reporting period, covering April 2023 to March 2024.
The assessment, carried out using the recognised GHG Protocol methodology, provides a detailed overview of emissions associated with our operations and wider value chain. It allows us to identify the areas that have the greatest environmental impact and helps inform our approach to reducing emissions over time.
The assessment recorded approximately 16,000 tonnes of CO₂e across the three GHG Protocol scopes:
The results show that, as with our previous assessment, the overwhelming majority of our reported emissions sit within Scope 3, which covers emissions across our wider value chain.
Purchased products remain our largest source of emissions, accounting for approximately 15,000 tCO₂e – around 90% of our total footprint.
Travel and commuting accounted for approximately 1,500 tCO₂e, representing 9.4% of total emissions, while energy accounted for 144 tCO₂e and waste for 11 tCO₂e.
These results reinforce the importance of looking beyond our own direct operations. While Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions represent a relatively small proportion of our overall footprint, working with our suppliers and engaging our employees will be important in achieving meaningful reductions across our wider carbon footprint.
Our 2023/24 assessment also shows an improvement in our Greenly Climate Score, increasing from the previous assessment's score of 9 to 24 points.
The assessment identifies further opportunities for us to develop our climate strategy, including setting measurable emissions reduction targets, establishing an action plan, engaging our supply chain and employees, and continuing to communicate our progress with our stakeholders.
Completing these assessments gives us a clearer understanding of where our emissions come from and provides a baseline against which we can measure future progress. We recognise that reducing our environmental impact is an ongoing process, and we will continue to use the information from our assessments to help shape our sustainability strategy.
