A&F Sprinklers has completed its latest Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Assessment, covering the period from April 2024 to March 2025, as we continue to measure, understand and work to reduce our environmental impact.
The assessment uses the official and approved GHG Protocol methodology and considers emissions under our operational control across Scope 1, Scope 2 and Scope 3. This year's assessment also incorporated a broader range of primary data, including an employee survey, buildings data, biomass boiler information, business travel and vehicle fuel consumption, and waste data.
The assessment recorded approximately 13,000 tonnes of CO₂e across all three scopes:
Compared with the previous year's assessment, the overall reported footprint has decreased by 22%, from approximately 16,000 tCO₂e to 13,000 tCO₂e. The report also shows reductions of 28% in Scope 1 and 51% in Scope 2.
As with our previous assessments, Scope 3 continues to account for the vast majority of our reported emissions. This reinforces the importance of looking beyond our own direct operations and working with our supply chain, employees and other stakeholders to identify further opportunities for improvement.
The largest individual sources of emissions were product purchases, at approximately 6,767 tCO₂e, and services purchases, at approximately 3,953 tCO₂e. Together, these account for the majority of our overall footprint.
Travel and commuting contributed a further 857 tCO₂e, while assets accounted for 795 tCO₂e. Energy and waste represented much smaller proportions of the overall footprint, at 129 tCO₂e and 106 tCO₂e respectively.
The assessment also provides greater insight into some of these categories. For example, product purchases accounted for 53% of total emissions, while services purchases represented 31%. Travel and commuting accounted for 6.7%, with assets representing 6.2%.
Our latest assessment also shows continued progress in our Greenly Climate Score, which has increased from 24 points in 2023/24 to 38 points in 2024/25.
The score reflects progress in areas including measuring emissions, reducing emissions and raising awareness. The assessment identifies further opportunities for us to develop our climate strategy, including establishing reduction targets, implementing an action plan, engaging our suppliers and employees, and continuing to communicate our environmental commitments and progress.
Importantly, the assessment gives us an increasingly detailed picture of our environmental impact. This year's process included greater use of activity-based data, including information gathered through our employee survey and data relating to our buildings, biomass boiler, business travel, vehicle fuel consumption and waste.
This information will help us identify where further action can have the greatest impact as we continue to develop our sustainability strategy.
Completing our GHG assessments is an important part of our approach to sustainability. By measuring our emissions year after year, we can better understand the sources of our environmental impact, identify areas for improvement and establish a clearer basis for future reduction targets.
